The Missile strike on Shayrat Air Base in Syria was the first military test for President Trump, and it was perhaps a far greater strategic victory than a tactical one. Possibly the strongest message sent was to Russia and Iran who have enjoyed non-consequential free reign and influence in the Middle East for far too long. We could have destroyed Syria’s Air Force, but for now we chose to destroy one base along with its assets that were used to conduct the chemical weapons attack on innocent civilians. Syria crossed that red line in 2013 with no consequences. They, the Russians and the Iranians, who are both supplying Assad’s war effort, now know that Trump will act quickly and decisively when lines are crossed.
