A spotlight has been recently shined on the brutal MS-13 (Mara Salvatrucha) terror gang in the U.S.   The gang began in the early 80’s during the civil wars in El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua.  MS-13 was originally comprised of war refugees who settled in Los Angeles neighborhoods and has since spread throughout the United States and have members in most every major city.

The growth of this gang has been attributed to lax border controls, and while the discussion about MS-13 has contributed to a political discussion about our borders, the reality is that the gang is  estimated to be 10,000 strong in the U.S.  In fact, during the Obama administration in 2012, the U.S Department of the Treasury labeled the group a “transnational criminal organization.”

MS-13 is known as the darkest, most brutal of the street gangs and their acts include extortion, drugs, kidnappings, random murders and beheadings.  Read more
